Computer Networking

Computer Networking

A day in my life and my interface with computer technologies:

Instinctively each day I stop at my local Gas Station for Gas and juice. The gas pump I use is a networked computer as it communicates with my bank card, the gas vendor and the gas pump allowing me to purchase gas and have the cost posted to my bank.

Just to get to my gas vendor, however I have to maneuver several intersections controlled by traffic signals. These traffic signals are networked computers, as they control the flow of traffic via sensors that schedule the signal light changes based on the flow of traffic.

As I shopped today at my local store as the barcode is scanned it is using a networked technology to look up the price of the item, remove it from the stores inventory and do all the accounting required from the purchase transactions, debit my bank card etc.

The most obvious daily contact with networked computers is at my place of employment AT&T as a customer service representative I am required to access multiple data bases, applications and software in the performance of my job. As a workgroup we share common printers and scanners which are made possible by the network at my office.

And lastly almost every evening, I use my personal computer to do home work and manage my personal e-mail.
